Research-to-Practice Conference of the International Paralympic Committee ‘VISTA’

The 7-th research-to-practice conference of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) ‘VISTA’ took place from October 7 to October 10 in Girona (Spain).

The federation of sports of the Russian blind people at the conference was represented by the head of the division of the System Research of the Formation of Sports Mastery of Federal State Budget Institution ‘Saint-Petersburg Scientific-Research Institute for Physical Culture’, Ed.D. –Alexey A. Baryaev, who presented 2 poster papers on the system of scientific methodological framework in Paralympic sports and, in particular, in the Russian goalball team, which attracted great attention of IPC specialists. 260 representatives of sports federations, athletes, coaches and research officers from all over the world took part in this conference.

The main topic of the conference was the issue of training Paralympic sports reserve and attracting young athletes to sports.

The plan of the conference includes the following topics: classification, sports medicine, nutrition, biomechanics, physiology, social issues and sports training.

After the Paralympic Games 2016 in Brazil the IPC classification code will be revised, the main aim of which will be class formations according to the sports principles, taking into consideration medical diagnosis.

Most of the current researches are dedicated to devising this new classification.

The next VISTA conference will take place in September 2017 in Toronto (Canada).
